Every year a medical work team is sent to the tiny, mountainous village of Tochimizolco, four hours southeast of Mexico City. This work team has assisted the Methodist Church of Mexico and the Board of Directors of Tochimizolco in establishing a permanently staffed medical clinic, and provides medical, dental, construction, and Bible school support. The work team encourages spiritual growth for all those involved, educates and shares their experiences with members at home, thereby promoting acceptance and understanding of another culture, and confirms that God's love transcends all borders. This program involves a covenant between three churches: Dayspring UMC, Grace UMC of Olathe, KS, and the Mexican Methodist Church, Mexico. A loving and trusting relationship has been built with our Mexican sister churches, and the goal is to enable the people of this area to become self-sufficient in health care provision. I was part of the team in 2005. We flew from Kansas City to Mexico City on Tuesday, March 30, and then took a bus to Puebla, Mexico. We spent two nights in Puebla at the Hotel San Angel, sandwiched around a day of preparation and sightseeing, and then took a bus to Tochimizolco, hereinafter called Tochi. There, we set up the clinic and saw patients until dark on Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. After worship service and lunch on Sunday, we returned to Puebla for recuperation and shopping before returning to the States. Below are links to pictures from the trip.
