A Squint Odyssey

What is a Squint Race?

by S.D.

There’s no way to sugar coat what the squint races are.  Basically you stick a quarter up your butt and run.  Your goal is to deliver the quarter to a coffee can and drop it inside.  This really isn’t a simple task, there is a technique to it, and everyone has their own.

The first technique is the insertion of the quarter.  It can take a person anywhere from two seconds to 10 minutes (the Foster/Dyck approach) to find the perfect spot between their cheeks.

The next technique is the delivery.  Some like to take a slow stride down to the coffee cans.  These people rarely win!  Others run as if they are in a life or death situation, and to some it is just that.

Finally, we come to the technique of depositing of the quarter into the coffee can.  Some simply stand over the can and let the quarter drop.  Others like to squat all the way down as if they are going to deposit more than just a quarter.

No, it is not a common sport, but it is a sport.  It’s a sport that has given us a reason to camp with the same group of people now for over 20 years and has allowed us to keep many friendships active for such a long time now.

Before you judge the squint races, you really must try them, and remember…

”If you don’t squint, then you ain’t sh*t!”      (Sorry Grandma!)

PS.  Yes, you perverts, we are fully clothed the entire time!

What is a Blind Barrel Race?

Please be patient: Charles' daughter Shayla has agreed to write up an explanation of this race for this web page, but she is very busy and can't be bothered right now.
